Who we are

Cougar Patent Law is a small law firm practicing primarily in the area of patents along with contract and business law, especially as it relates to and interfaces with patent law. The principal is Carol Nottenburg PhD JD. We are located in Seattle, Washington USA and maintain a presence in Canberra, ACT Australia. Our clients are located around the world and include start-up companies, small businesses, individual inventors, and non-profit research organizations.

Our primary scientific credentials are in life sciences, however we are comfortable working in many different technology areas. The technologies of our clients range from chemistry to genomics, medical devices, and plant biotechnology to solid-state lighting. Many of our clients are small companies in an early stage of economic growth, although some of them have substantial patent portfolios.
